Miswak Health Benefits and Cure from Diseases
The last Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) said: “If I had not found it a hardship for my Ummah, I would order them to make wudu’ for every salat and to use miswak in every wudu.” (Bukhari, Muslim)
Introduction
A natural toothbrush called miswak is made from the roots or branches of different trees and bushes. The Salvadora persica root, a widespread and advantageous desert plant also known as arak in Arabic and peelu in Urdu, is a wild desert plant.
The major advantages of the miswak include it strengthens the gums and prevents tooth decay, assists in eliminating toothaches, and prevents further increase of decay that has already set in.
Miswak eliminates germs, tartar, and plaque. It also increases saliva production, which helps to prevent foul breath. Miswak also has a pleasant perfume due to the essential oils it contains
Miswak has a strong antioxidant capacity and a high concentration of the antioxidant enzymes peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase. The greatest option for those with hypersensitivity who have trouble brushing is Miswak.
People in Africa and the Middle East use the astringent properties of the miswak tree's leaves to assist digestion. To get the most out of them, consume them on an empty stomach.
Benefits Of Miswak For Stomach
Because the leaves of the miswak tree are astringent, people in Africa and the Middle East eat them to improve their digestion. To reap their benefits, they should be eaten on an empty stomach.
The diuretic characteristics of the sweet fruit from the miswak tree are used to cure both liver and stomach issues. The miswak tree's bark is effective in treating stomach ulcers and epilepsy.
Benefits Of Miswak For Skin
Miswak is utilized in several therapeutic lotions since it has a variety of antibacterial characteristics. When applied to the skin, a paste prepared from its fruit, leaves, or bark relieves skin fungus infections. Miswak's delicious fruit is used to alleviate piles and skin problems. The menstrual cycle is regulated by the bark of the miswak tree. Additionally, a miswak shields our bodies from certain cancers.
The Impacts of Various Elements of Miswak on Health
Fresh sap that is released when a stick is chewed has an anti-cariogenic effect and functions similarly to topical fluoride, whose efficacy depends on its capacity to wet tooth enamel and reach caries-prone regions.
Salvado Persica Miswak releases high amounts of calcium and phosphorus and has a total fluoride content of around 1.0 g/g. 4Because of its abrasive properties, silica helps keep teeth white by removing stains.
Tannins (Tannic acid) have anti-tumor properties on animals in vitro and operate as an astringent that precipitates albumin. Through glucosyltransferase inhibition, they lessen plaque and gingivitis. When applied to the base of the denture, it also has antimycotic properties and results in a decline in Candida Albicans colonies.
Resins, which create a layer over the enamel and guard it against caries, are hard, translucent, intricate combinations of resin acids, resin alcohols, phenols, esters, and chemically inert substances.
Alkaloids are chemical molecules that include nitrogen. Salvadorine, an alkaloid found in Salvadora persica, possesses antibacterial and gingiva-stimulating properties.
Essential (volatile) oils have a distinctive scent and a somewhat bitter taste that promote salivation.
Bactericidal properties are exhibited by Miswak's high sulphur compounds (4.73 percent).
Vitamin C helps the tissues mend and restore themselves.
Sodium bicarbonate, often known as baking soda or NaHCOB, has mild germicidal and abrasive qualities that make it useful as a dentifrice.
A high chloride concentration aids in the removal of dental stains by preventing the development of calculus.
The remineralization of dental enamel is facilitated by calcium saturation.
Benzylisothiocyanate (BIT), a chemo-preventive agent, stops genotoxic and other carcinogenic substances from getting to the target areas on the treated tissue or reacting with them.
Alternative medicine practitioners have treated splenomegaly, rheumatism, malignancies, and kidney stones in people with concentrated liquor (decoction) of S. persica. Additionally, it has been demonstrated to have hypoglycemic effects, increase oral glucose tolerance in normal rats, and raise plasma immunoreactive insulin levels.
Salvadore Persica root and stem extracts have been used successfully to treat human oral infections.
Various Types of Miswaks
The following categories of Miswak are suggested:
• The Peelo tree
• Olive tree or Zaitoon
• Bitam
• Any acrid tree
The Peelo Tree's Miswak
"And, the finest of Miswaks is the Peelo, Then The Olive” (KABIRI)
The Miswak that comes from the Peelo tree is the best sort. The Peelo tree's miswak is fantastic for bringing out the shine or glitter on the teeth. Furthermore, Our Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) praised and recommended the Peelo tree for use in Miswak. The Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) and the Companions (May Allah Be Pleased with Them) used Miswaks of the Peelo tree in addition to advising it. Imam Shafi (R) companions have demonstrated consensus on the idea that using the Peelo Miswak is Mustahab.
The Olive Tree's Miswak
Additionally, the Miswak of this tree has received praise from Our Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). The Hadith that follows clarifies the significance of the Olive tree Miswak "Utilize the Olive Tree Miswak. It's a Miswak for a lucky tree. It makes the mouth healthy and clean. It takes away the teeth's yellow tint. It is both my Miswak and the Miswak of the Prophets who came before me, i.e. Rasulullah."(MUNTAKHAB)
Miswak of the Tree of Bitam
Another Hadith claims that in the lack of the Peelo tree, one might use the Olive tree, and in the absence of the Olive Miswak, one could use the Bitam tree Miswak.(MUNTAKHAB)
Some Bitter tree's Miswak
Any bitter tree can be used to make miswak if none of the three types described above are available.
It is advised to use a miswak made from a sour tree afterward since it effectively removes mouth odour (KUHASTANI) (KABIRI)
Miswak and Toothpaste
It appears that miswak is more useful on its own than toothbrushes, toothpaste, and mouthwash combined. In addition to removing plaque, calculus, and debris, it also can de-sensitize teeth, stop tooth decay in its tracks, build bone, and protect against bone loss; strengthen joints, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues; kill pathogens; remineralize tooth structure; regulate blood pressure; increase immunity; aid in fighting infections; heal tissue repair; lessen bleeding gums; protect against heart attack, and have anti-cancerous properties. No literature makes a direct comparison between power toothbrushes and miswaks.
